An Expressive Approach to Soft Pastel with Richard Suckling Saturday, May 23, 2026 · 9:00 AM–12:00 PM MT This paint-along features UK-based artist Richard Suckling, who will demonstrate an expressive approach to working with soft pastel and mixed media. Participants will work from two subjects—a garden and a coastal scene—using reference photos as a starting point. Richard emphasizes using reference as a springboard for ideas, encouraging a more interpretive and expressive approach rather than strict replication. Participants will work on sanded or velour surfaces using soft pastels, with the optional use of alcohol and gouache as part of the process.

Planning & Creating Color Harmony With Jeannette Stutzman In this paint-along, participants will explore how to use the color wheel to create stronger, more intentional color harmony in their work. Creating a Textured Underpainting for Pastels With Tom Christopher Students will learn Tom Christopher’s award-winning technique for creating an acrylic textured underpainting designed specifically for pastel application. The session will also include instruction on painting fundamentals such as composition, correct value structure, and effective color choices.This intermediate-level paint along will guide participants through creating a textured underpainting using house paint, acrylic paint, and Golden Fine Pumice Gel.
