Capturing the Saturated Colors in a Sunset with Tobi Clement

Our September Paint-Along features Santa Fe artist Tobi Clement.

Join Tobi as she demonstrates the considerations needed to create a believable sunset. She begins every painting by developing a color story that explores values, intensity, and color relationships before moving into the painting itself. Throughout the demonstration, she’ll discuss layering techniques, brushwork, and her unique process of moving dry pastel pigment with brushes on Pastelmat.

Participants will paint from an instructor-provided reference while following along with Tobi’s step-by-step demonstration and learning techniques that can be applied to future landscape paintings.

Mixed / all levels welcome. A recording will be provided to registrants following the session.

Tobi Clement

Tobi Clement is a contemporary pastel artist based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, whose work is inspired by the dramatic skies and changing light of the Southwest. Originally an avid plein air painter, she now combines outdoor studies with studio experimentation to create large, expressive pastel paintings that capture the atmosphere and emotion of expansive landscapes. Her innovative techniques using brushes with soft pastel have earned her international recognition.
