western slope meetings

We have two groups of artists that meet regularly, one on the Front Range (Denver) and one on the Western Slope (Grand Junction). Both share friendships, information on pastel supplies, demos, and methods to promote sales.

Upcoming Meetings in Grand Junction, CO

The West Slope Pastelists meet the months of September through May. Meetings are not held during the summer months of June, July and September.
The meetings are typically held on the third Saturday of the month except in December when we hold a holiday party earlier in the month. A short business meeting begins at 1:00pm, followed by a demo or educational activity, and concludes around 3pm. We meet at the Bray Education Center at 640 Belford Avenue in Grand Junction.

For additional information please contact Claudia Crowell at Crowell.claudia@gmail.com. We hope to see you at our meetings!

Art Tribe January 29, 2026

Art Tribe, our PSC monthly social event for those of us who want to talk about art and other subjects, has been on the last Thursday of every month. But the last Thursdays of November and December are holidays, so we will start up Art Tribe again on the afternoon of January 29, 2026.

We will gather from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Eddy Taproom, 1640 Eighth Street in Golden, and we would be delighted to see you there. While waiting for the return of Art Tribe, we leave you with a painting thought from Brain Food, a blog by Shane Parrish: “When you fall in love with the process rather than the outcome, you don’t have to wait to be happy.” Keep painting, my friends, and give Art Tribe a try in January.

Mitch Caster is a Colorado-based fine artist and life drawing instructor. In his oil paintings, pastels, and drawings, his subjects come to life with exceptional use of light and shadows, and extraordinary depth. His background as a courtroom illustrator has enabled him to quickly capture likeness and gesture.

Mitch’s paintings of ballerinas have won numerous awards in PSC exhibitions.

This will be the first in a spring series focusing on fundamental skills and mastery of elements needed for creating a successful painting.

Composition of a figure study, tonal values and capturing gesture will be discussed.
