Signature Membership
What is a PSC Signature Member?
A Signature Member is a Pastel Society of Colorado member in good standing whose award-winning skills, nationally accepted experience, service to PSC as a board member, exhibition or committee chair and creative vision is such that their pastel work could represent the Pastel Society of Colorado.
Signature Members have the prestige of adding PSC after their name when signing works.
How could I become a Signature Member?
Members must attain a specific number of points within a time frame by meeting a combination of qualifications listed below. An exhibition is defined as a juried competition (A juried competition is one in which the juror pre-selects the work through images). The show is judged for awards later from those entries.
Annual competitions will be counted separately each year so long as they have different jurors. Sales venues (i.e. festivals, fairs, galleries, and purchase awards) will not be counted in this point system, however the PSC Board of Directors has the right to consider some juried festivals. Applications will be considered on an individual basis.
A total of 7 points must be earned. 5 points must be earned in at least 3 different exhibitions and 2 points in service to the PSC. These points may be earned over time, as long as there is no lapse in membership.
Award & Acceptance Points:
- Acceptance of a pastel painting into a State/Regional/National or International Juried Pastel Exhibition or Competition, one per painting, maximum of 2 points for acceptance into any given show. Must be soft pastel and in the professional category.
- Winning an award with a pastel painting at a State/Regional/National or International Juried Exhibition or Competition; 2 points are awarded for Best of Show, 1 point for First Place, Second place, Third place, Honorable Mention, or any other award [except People’s Choice].
- Winning an award with a pastel painting in Pastel Society of Colorado, Members-Only Show.
- Plein Air National Juried Competitions with (2 or more years history) – Only 2 points total may be earned in National Juried Plein Air Competitions. Points may be accrued for awards, points are not earned for acceptance.
- Online National Juried Shows – Only 2 points total may be earned in National or International Juried Online Shows. Points may be earned for acceptance and/or awards.
- Other points – 1 point for selection in an IAPS cover competition.
- 1 point may be earned from applicant being featured in a National publication such as The Pastel Journal or The Artists’ Magazine. (Not an advertisement or part of an advertisement). A mention in a group editorial related to a group ad does not count.
Service Points:
- Holding an Office (Co-Presidents, Vice President Western Slope, Co-Treasurers, Secretary) will earn 1 point per year in service. (Note: Completing the Co-President/President tenure would complete the Service requirement, since that is a 2 year commitment). Directors-at-large will earn 1 point per 2-year term (or ½ point per year, with the option of service for another term).
- Chairing or Co-Sharing a show will earn 1 point per show. (Example: Chairing 2 shows would meet the Service requirement.) Serving on the show committee will earn ½ point per show.
- Chairing a committee, such as Membership, Historian, Paint-Out, etc. as listed in our website (under: About > PSC Leadership), will earn 1 point per year. Serving on the committee will earn ½ point per year.
- Presenting a demo at a PSC Member meeting, or leading a PSC workshop (such as Pastel Camp), will earn ½ point. NOTE: Members must choose between being paid for the demo/workshop, or earning half a point.
Additional Notes:
-A paid service CANNOT earn service credits.
-Service credits will be awarded AFTER the service has been completed.
-Acceptance/Awards credits as well as Service credits earned for Signature Status may not be reused for earning Master Signature status.
Those who have attained a PSC Signature Membership from previous criteria will remain with that status without further documentation. Honorary Signature Memberships may be awarded on an individual basis at the discretion of the PSC Board of Directors.
Signature Member applicants must be members while earning all points. Once approved Signature Members must continue membership or Signature Membership is lost.
