Develop the technical skills needed to create colorful and dynamic Urban pastel paintings.

In this workshop you will learn how to develop and approach the urban/city, learn how to edit and create a visually interesting pastel work. Learn some tips and tricks to create textures and help you in your creative development. Andrew will share his process and knowledge he uses to create visually lush impressionistic pastel paintings.

In working from a urban photo supplied by the instructor, you will create and develop a cityscape as you paint-along.

Emphasis will be placed on developing a painterly approach with pastels on mid-tone and/or dark paper. Learn how to develop unique color palettes, layer color, contrast warm & cool hues, build form abstract with value and play with edges and textures.
 

Registration for the paint-along is $10 for members and $20 for non-members.  

Deadline to register is Wednesday, October 15th at 9 pm but sign up ASAP so you can make sure you have the necessary supplies to enjoy this September 18th Zoom paint-along with Andrew.

Expressive Figure Painting

If you’ve seen Mitch’s paintings of dancers, you’ve seen how figure painting can be a powerful means to express a story. In this three-hour session, we’ll have the opportunity to step through the gestural process that expresses movement and keeps the subject fresh. 

Known as an outstanding figurative artist, Caster paints the human form in all walks of life, drawing on his appreciation of all cultures to pass on their uniqueness and history to future generations. He also loves painting wildlife, landscapes, lighthouses, and much more. 

Caster’s artwork is in collections throughout the world and has been featured in several national art magazines and has shown in numerous galleries throughout the country. He has received awards from and is a Signature Member of Pastel Society of Colorado, Oil Painters of America, and National Oil and Acrylic Painters’ Society. He has received numerous other awards, including Colorado Governor’s Art Show and Sale, and is also a Signature Member of American Society of Marine Artists.  From his work at 9NEWS/KUSA-TV, he received five Rocky Mountain Emmy Awards in art direction. He is a long-time figure drawing instructor at the Art Students League of Denver.
