She also holds signature status with both the Pastel Society of America and the Pastel Society of New Mexico, and is a Master Circle Pastelist with the International Association of Pastel Societies (IAPS). In addition, she is a member of Plein Air Artists of Colorado and the American Impressionist Society.

Sarah has served on the PSC board, playing a key role in developing the PSC Online Show, and served as its co-chair for many years. Her work has been exhibited in shows and exhibitions across the United States, and her paintings have earned awards in international competitions.

In her upcoming demonstration, Sarah explores the art of capturing water in pastel—one of her favorite yet most challenging subjects. Water can be calm or turbulent, rippling or cascading, reflective or transparent. How does one truly capture its essence? Throughout her artistic career, Sarah has been deeply engaged in uncovering the nuances of painting water, and she will share her insights and techniques for approaching this complex subject.

Barbara Churchley moved from Tennessee to the Colorado mountains and discovered she loved to paint them. Her oil and pastel paintings are interpretive and impressionistic, infused with bright color and bold  brushwork.  Barb has traveled the world as an artist, marathon runner, and avid birder.  Reflecting on the many awards  and the recognition she has received, the greatest satisfaction has come from creating notecards with paintings of resident birds of the Colorado National Monument, to pleasure and educate visitors. Barb has a one-woman show at Center for the Arts, May 8 to June 26, in Grand Junction. The reception will be June 5, 6:30 to 9:00 PM.
