We have two groups of artists that meet regularly, one on the Front Range (Denver) and one on the Western Slope (Grand Junction). Both share friendships, information on pastel supplies, demos, and methods to promote sales.

Gretchen Acharya, Artist

My Mother was an artist. I was exposed at an early age. Naturally I just assumed that art is what people do. I earned my degree in Fine Arts at CU Boulder and continued my education through a multitude of classes, workshops and art adventures. I have spent many years creating art, teaching, exhibiting and exploring. 

 As an artist, my primary experience of the world is visual. My gift is the ability to communicate this experience through art. My art is derived from my participation in and observation of the dance of life around me. Whatever the subject, it is my intention to reach beyond the simple reflection of a physical object, to communicate to the viewer on a deeper level. I am interested in the interplay of light, shadow and  texture in defining form and expressing the living energy of the subject.  My goal is to encourage people to observe life more thoughtfully. For my demonstration I will paint a tree inspired by trees I met while teaching a plein air workshop for Open Studios in Longmont. Willow Park is a small neighborhood park where a tiny stream is home to a long stretch of willows. Willows are marvelous beings with their deeply textured bark and light filtering through fine green leaves.

Western Slope

The West Slope PSC will be on summer hiatus and meetings will resume in September. The Plein Aire painters will be meeting and Deb Mallory will co-ordinate them as usual.
