DEMO ARTIST: Western Slope artist Jennifer Riefenberg

Color Harmonies — and working with some of the more “obscure” harmonies

This demo will discuss some of the more obscure color harmonies as a challenge to ourselves as painters in our continued growth.  It will also cover, as a refresher, the basic color harmonies and why they might be something to consciously consider when painting. 

Jennifer Riefenberg Artist Statement:

Jennifer paints in various mediums – but is most at home, outside with nature and her paints. She is a fourth-generation Colorado native and has degrees in engineering and mathematics.

Jennifer is a board member of Plein Air Artists of Colorado (PAAC) and member of the American Impressionist Society, Pastel Society of Colorado, and Oil Painters of America.

Jennifer has won numerous awards in local, regional, and national exhibitions and has taught painting and other art for many years. She is currently represented by Mary Williams Fine Arts in Boulder, CO; Redstone Art Gallery in Redstone, CO and The Golden Bough in Basalt, CO.

“I prefer painting from life – en plein air. Painting is exploring and discovering, healing and learning, admiring and preserving. As a painting takes on its own voice, it becomes a living experience with each brushstroke a breath toward its creation. I love to paint and I hope that my artwork communicates the experiences that I have and captures the very essence of the beautiful world through my eyes and interpretation.”

November 2026 Western Slope Members Meeting

Location: Bray Education Center at 640 Belford Avenue in Grand Junction

Demo Artist: Sandy Marvin

Sandy has a very dedicated life to art. Medical illustrator, calligrapher, sign painter, graphic designer, high-school art teacher and fine artist.  

As a representational painter with a strong abstract tendency, she works in soft pastel with a dash of other media mixed in. Her inspiration comes from the natural world as well as the world of things. Sandy is coming from Denver  prepared to take the members on an exciting trip to placing those marks and moving on. She will talk about developing a vocabulary of marks and how different papers affect your mark making. The title of her demo is “Marksmanship”.
