PSC JULY 2023 PAINT-ALONG DEMO! “Cactus in Bloom”

July 22, 2023, 1:00 to 4:00 pm on Zoom

Instructor: Jeannette Stutzman
No longer accepting registrations…

Registrants, please check your inbox for an email from webmaster@pastelsocietyofcolorado.org with the reference, supplies list and zoom link. See you from 1-4pm MST Saturday, July 22. You can enter the zoom room starting at 12:45 if you’d like. We’ll start promptly at 1pm.

Explore with me! I’ll demonstrate a fun technique that may be NEW to you!

How to add the illusion of texture and abstract shapes to a painting using stencils (handmade or purchased) and pan pastels (or your saved pastel dust if you prefer) along with your soft pastel sticks! This is the technique used to create one of my paintings that was shown at the Curtis Center for the Arts in the PSC Mile High Show and also the technique used for the demo I did in June.

We’ll be doing an alcohol or water wash underpainting then we’ll be cutting some simple stencils during the paint-along to use for our painting of this flowering cactus. You will be able to use pastel dust or pan pastels to paint through the stencils and then we’ll paint on top again with soft pastels. Sometimes I like to add more stenciling after the soft pastel… I’ll provide a supply list and zoom link after you register. These will be provided as a private link to a webpage and a pdf file that you can print before the paint-along.

We’ll also revisit a little of the color harmony information from my January 2023 Color Harmony paint along demo (not as extensively). I’m happy to answer questions!
