"Sunny Winter Day at Oxbow" by Joelle Feldman "Red Grasses at Oxbow" by Joelle Feldman
“EXPLORATIONS IN TEXTURE: PAINTING WINTER GRASSES”
With JOELLE FELDMAN
PSC ZOOM Paint-along, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 2025, 9 a.m.-Noon, MT
11am ET | 10am CT | 9am MT | 8am PT

Explore gestural underpainting with colored graphite as Joelle leads us through this freeing and fun technique for building texture. OR, if you’d rather not purchase new materials*, you can comfortably begin with alcohol-washed pastel. Joelle will demonstrate both underpainting options, as well as using a brayer with water soluble oils. She’ll then complete a grassy winter scene over the graphite start.
Joelle teaches classes in Harvard, Massachusetts where she lives, as well as online. Though mostly self-taught, Joelle has studied with renowned artists such as Frank Federico, Liz Haywood Sullivan, Aline Ordman, Jeanne Rosier Smith, Carol Marine and Colin Page to name a few. Her work has won awards too numerous to list here. She is a juried signature member of four northeastern pastel societies, an associate member of the PSA and is represented by four galleries in Massachusetts and Maine.
*Colored graphite comes in blocks, lasts a long time and is not expensive. Small sets are available from Amazon with quick shipping. Online art stores carry individual blocks. Links will be included on the materials list.
