June 21 & 22, 2025 – 9:30am-4pm

Ridgeway, Colorado

“Achieving the Impression of Light in Your Soft Pastel Paintings”

In this 2-day workshop, students will study and practice the following concepts and techniques:

• Relationship of light to color; the visible spectrum

• The light source

• Value, Hue, Saturation

• Shadow families and light families; Importance of contrast

• What you see vs what you know

• Simplification (shapes, values, colors)

• Examples from well-known artists

• Intent: the “scene” vs designing your painting
